You know what there's not an app for? Vision.
Photography for cover art is a recipe that always changes; blending and understanding the vision of the art director, hearing the voice of the author and then constructing this vision uniquely into a single image that will sell. It¹s an incredibly collaborative way of working.

What does it look like? It starts with an idea. It sometimes develops from a described feeling, a situation or maybe how a character dresses in a story. Making the photograph might involve creating props, finding locations, hiring stylists or casting characters that will help me illustrate that idea. Even though I make sketches or block out shots, keeping flexible and open to experimentation keeps things interesting and always allows room for inspiration.

Ideas locations and props are elements that support creating an emotive picture, but the capture must be genuine and with natural energy for a portrait to have real soul, and for a moment to be believable. A huge part of directing talent is creating trust and giving the person room to allow their personality to come forward. As the photographer, you must know what you are looking for, and you must know how to get what you want.

Throw me in the crowd and I will enthusiastically come back with powerful narrative imagery; but creating, collaborating, and producing distinctive images from scratch, that is where I really enjoy cooking.
